A Commitment to Care and Quality

Employee Spotlight | Destiny Anderson

If Destiny Anderson offers you a slice of tres leches cake, take her up on it. She and her kids, ages 5 and 12, have been working on perfecting the sweet treat. “I love to make baked goodies with my kids,” said Destiny. “One day we tried tres leches cake and were hooked. We add different fruits. So far, strawberry is the favorite.”

Destiny demonstrates a commitment to quality both in her baked goods and her work environment. As the practice manager for Family Planning, she tracks the department’s progress on Open Door’s key quality measures and ensures compliance with Title X clinic requirements. Under her leadership, Family Planning has passed federal audits with flying colors and received Open Door’s annual department quality award in 2023 and 2024.

She appreciates the recognition (“I love quality!”), but Destiny is more motivated by patient feedback. It can feel awkward to talk about sexual and reproductive health, and it’s not uncommon for patients to have an incomplete picture of their options. She and her team work hard to maintain a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where patients can develop a sense of control over their health.

“It makes my week when patients tell us they felt comfortable to be honest and open with their provider,” said Destiny. “It’s a team effort, and I love that. I also love collaborating with other Open Door departments to provide the best possible care for the patient.”

She started at Open Door in 2016 as a registered medical assistant in primary care. A short time later, she moved to a bilingual MA role in Family Planning. Like tres leches cake, it didn’t take her long to know that Family Planning was the place for her. Over the last seven years, she’s worked her way up to leading the Family Planning unit as practice manager. She’s been recognized twice by Open Door for her exceptional service: first with the Encouraging Uniqueness Award in 2022, and this past December (2024) with the Mission Player of the Year Award.

“Destiny is so dedicated to Open Door, her team, and our patients. She is a servant leader who demonstrates integrity and humility every day,” said Jenny Treon, director of human resources. “It’s been such an honor watching her grow over the years into a very dedicated, caring manager.”
