May 30, 2017 – Muncie, IN – Open Door Health Services would like to announce that the Open Door Farmers’ Market is back again this year and better than ever! The market will begin on July 18th and run through mid-to-late October, to be located in the east parking lot at 333 S Madison St in Downtown Muncie, which is the same location as last year.
There are several exciting updates and changes to this year’s farmers’ market. The first being that the farmers’ market days have been extended to THREE days instead of just one. The farmers’ market will be open and operating from 11am to 2pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. This change will allow community members to have more opportunities to access fresh produce.
The vendor lineup has also received some exciting new additions, including several new farms. Spangler’s Farm Market and Landess Farms are returning this year. Schrock Family Farm and Pinehurst Farms are new additions to this year’s lineup. Two of the new vendors are mobile markets. The Flavor Fresh Mobile Market and Hoosier Roots Mobile Market will both be a part of the farmers’ market this year. There is also a good chance that meat, cheese, honey, and eggs will also be offered by the end of the summer, so be looking out for that exciting update. Open Door hopes that the variety in vendors will help to provide different and unique produce selections.
SNAP benefits will be accepted by the mobile markets. In addition, WIC and senior farmers’ market checks and IU Health Bucks will be accepted by most vendors. Vendors will also accept cash and checks. These benefits go along with Open Door’s farmers’ market mission, which is to provide employees, patients, and community members with fresh and readily available produce and make it easier for everyone to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables in the community. “It is important to us to make access to fresh fruits and vegetables to the downtown area easier,” says Adriene Knight, a WIC Dietitian at Open Door Health Services.
Open Door is looking forward to this year’s farmers’ market and all of the exciting new changes!
